Position Closde-After Hours Call Handler, San Luis Obispo

Job Summary
Transitions - Mental Health Association (TMHA) has a part-time, temporary position available April 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014, for an After-Hours Call Handler. The SLO Hotline staff offers support and encouragement to callers, refers them to mental health and related resources in the community and assesses for crises and suicide.  In the event that a caller is in a crisis, the staff provides follow-up linkage to appropriate crisis intervention personnel.  This position promotes recovery and wellness, encouraging callers in their self-care.


The After-Hours Call Handler is responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator in the operations of the call center, which includes volunteer scheduling, clerical work and documentation required by contracting agencies. The After-Hours Call Handler also answers calls from the public, including calls forwarded from County Mental Health during designated evening, weekend and overnight periods, and documents these calls.  The staff will uphold and promote the philosophy of TMHA in all duties performed.

Minimum Requirements
Must be available to work after-hours, evening, overnight and weekend shifts. Spanish Bi-lingual preferred. Must have clear oral/written communication skills; ability to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of ethnic, racial, religious background or socio-economic level. Must be familiar with basic telephone and cell phone functions. Must be reliable, ethical, and work well with minimum supervision. Good judgment, decision making, and problem solving skills. Reliable transportation to and from work. Conditions of employment include: must be at least 18 years of age  At the time of hire, other conditions of employment are to comply with a T.B. skin test or chest x-ray indicating a negative tuberculosis result, and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.  

Compensation
Temporary, April 1 – December 31, 2014. Part-Time, 16 hours per week.  After hours shifts are typically 4 hours long and take place within the 6:00p.m.-7:00a.m. time period, depending on the need.
$10.00 – 13.00 per hour.  Wage is negotiable based on education and/or experience.
