Position Closed-Substance Abuse Specialist

Program: Lompoc ACT Program

Job Summary

Transitions Mental Health Association has an opening for a Substance Abuse Specialist for the Lompoc Act program.  The Lompoc Act Program is a Mental Health Services Act (MHSA)-funded, intensive Assertive Community Treatment program designed to engage with and provide services to transitional age youth (ages 16-25), adults, and older adults with serious and persistent mental illness so they can succeed in the community.  Lompoc Act will provide the full range of services including engagement, assessment, individualized planning, personal service coordination, integrated co-occurring drug and alcohol services, medication support, counseling support, social skills development, supported housing, integrated vocational services, supported education and access on a 24/7, 365 day basis. Lompoc Act promotes healing and recovery through a “whatever it takes” approach to service delivery.

The Substance Abuse Specialist for the Lompoc Act program is expected to supervise the general health, safety, and ongoing recovery of clients who specifically have issues with alcohol and/or drugs.  Lompoc Act uses a “harm reduction” approach to services. They also model home maintenance, function as a positive role model, promote cooperation and harmony in communal living, and uphold and promote the program philosophy in all duties performed. Besides case management they will perform counseling functions, staff education and direct groups for clients in all phases of recovery, awareness, and contemplation regarding co-occurring disorders.

Minimum Requirements

Masters Degree in a related field preferred; Spanish bilingual preferred; Must have experience in Alcohol/Drug treatment.  Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; well defined organizational and time management skills.  Conditions of employment include: must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, minimum of 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements.  May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance.  At the time of hire, other conditions of employment are to comply with a T.B. skin test or chest x-ray indicating a negative tuberculosis result, and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.  Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.

Compensation
Full-Time, 40 hours per week; $20.32 - $31.75 per hour, DOE, benefit eligible.
