Job Summary
Transitions – Mental Health Association (TMHA) has an opening for a Residential Counselor. Under the general direction of the Program Manager, the Residential Counselor supervises the general health and safety of psychiatrically disabled adults in a group home living situation. This position performs moderate household maintenance, functions as a positive role model, and promotes cooperation and harmony in communal living.
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma. Experience working with a psychiatrically disabled population and/ or awareness of Social Rehabilitation principles preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision making skills, remain calm under pressure; and have well-defined time management and organizational skills. Conditions of employment include: must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, minimum of 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. At the time of hire, other conditions of employment are to comply with a T.B. skin test or chest x-ray indicating a negative tuberculosis result, a health screen indicating fitness for duty and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
Compensation
Relief position (intermittent staff coverage, not regularly scheduled shifts) $11.27 to $14.74 per hour, depending on experience/education.
