Job Summary
The Mental Health Advocate functions as a liaison with consumers, PEI Community Based Therapeutic Services, county mental health staff, local Alliance for the Mentally Ill (AMI) groups, and other service providers. This position provides support, education, information, referral, and community outreach for adult consumers with psychiatric disabilities, with an emphasis on reaching underserved communities in rural regions of the county. In addition, the Mental Health Advocate provides training and extensive education and outreach to adult consumers, service providers, and the community regarding available programs, mental illness, and agency services. The position will be based regionally as determined by the needs of the community and the location of related PEI or other mental health services. Minimum Requirements
Must be an individual with experience as a consumer of mental health services. Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Valid Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets Transitions – Mental Health Association’s current vehicle insurance requirements. Dependable transportation and ability to travel within the county and state when needed. Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types. Knowledge of mental illness treatment and medications, as well as related systems such as County Mental Health, Social Security, Vocational Rehabilitation etc. a plus. Must be responsible, and reliable, and possess problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Spanish Bilingual a plus. Knowledge of substance abuse issues as they relate to people with psychiatric disabilities a plus.
Compensation
Part Time, 20 hours per week. $12.13- $16.63 per hour, depending on experience.
