Position Closed-PE&I Family Advocate

Job Summary

The Family Advocate functions as a liaison with PE&I Community Based Therapeutic Services, family members, care givers, consumers, county mental health staff, local NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), and other service providers. This position provides support, education, information and referral, community outreach for families of adult consumers with psychiatric disabilities, with an emphasis on reaching underserved communities. The Family Advocate provides training, education and outreach to families, service providers and the community in an effort to help reduce stigma, provide available resources and programs available. The position will be based regionally as determined by the needs of the community and the location of related PEI or other mental health services. The Family Advocate will provide services to all families in need with a particular focus on our LGBTQIA population, Veterans, and families of young adults. The Family Advocate will uphold the agency mission in all duties performed and will promote social rehabilitation, recovery, and wellness.


Minimum Requirements

Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Dependable transportation and ability to travel within the county and state when needed. Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types. Knowledge of mental illness treatment and medications, as well as related systems such as County Mental Health, Social Security, Vocational Rehabilitation etc. a plus. Must be responsible, and reliable, and possess problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Spanish Bilingual a plus. Knowledge of substance abuse issues as they relate to people with psychiatric disabilities a plus. Preference will be given to a family member of a person with a psychiatric disability.Conditions of employment include: must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, minimum of 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. At the time of hire, other conditions of employment are to comply with a T.B. skin test or chest x-ray indicating a negative tuberculosis result, and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.


Compensation

Full time, 40 hours, generous benefits. 12.13 – 16.63 DOE
