Program: Growing Grounds Downtown - San Luis Obispo
Job Summary
Under the supervision of Transitions-Mental Health Association’s Growing Grounds Downtown (GGD) store coordinator, the Americorps member will recruit, train, and supervise volunteers; create volunteer training programs and materials; support GGD operations, including coverage of retail clerk shifts and working with employment clients as a job coach at the store and at special events. In addition assist in the development, implementation and marketing of GGD and TMHA promotional and fundraising events. The Americorps member in this position is placed with the Cal Poly Community Center’s Central Coast Volunteer Corps. Members will work full time for a 10 month commitment. As compensation for their time, members will receive a living allowance throughout their service term and a stipend upon completion. All stipends and benefits are provided through the Cal Poly Community Center’s Central Coast Volunteer Corps.
Minimum Requirements
Working knowledge of standard office software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail and calendaring systems. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations and to interact effectively with diverse populations. Will require some weekend and evening event participation. Good judgment, decision making, and problem solving skills. Must be 18 years of age as required by TMHA’s insurance carrier. At the time of hire, as a condition of employment, must comply with a T.B. skin test or chest x-ray indicating a negative tuberculosis result. Must be fingerprinted and receive a criminal record clearance as a condition of employment. Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of ethnic, racial, religious background or socio-economic level. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business.
