Position Filled - Family Services Outreach Worker

Job Summary

The Family Services Outreach Worker functions as a liaison with the Family Advocates, PEI staff, family members, care givers, county mental health staff, local Alliance for the Mentally Ill (AMI) groups, and other service providers. This position provides outreach throughout the community, providing education, information, and referral information for families of adult consumers with psychiatric disabilities. The Family Advocate Outreach Worker will work collaboratively with agencies within the mental health system. In addition, the Family Advocate Outreach Worker will work as a link between families and their mentally ill loved one, service providers and the community to encourage the inclusion of the family in the treatment and recovery plan of the consumer. The position will be based regionally as determined by the needs of the community and the location of related PEI services, with an emphasis of service provision for the families of local Veterans, GLBTQ, homeless, and other underserved populations. This position will provide a broad range of general marketing, organizing and promoting various workshops and presentations locally and throughout the state, with potential opportunities for national and international presentations. The Family Services Outreach Worker will provide presentations including the Documentary, The Shaken Tree: Families Living With Mental Illness, to agencies, organizations, communities, and counties when the Program Manager is unavailable. The Family Services Outreach Worker will uphold the program philosophy.

Minimum Requirments

Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Valid Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets Transitions – Mental Health Association’s current vehicle insurance requirements. Dependable transportation and ability to travel within the county and state when needed. Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types. Knowledge of mental illness treatment and medications, as well as related systems such as County Mental Health, Social Security, Vocational Rehabilitation etc. a plus. Must be responsible, and reliable, and possess problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Spanish Bilingual a plus. Knowledge of substance abuse issues as they relate to people with psychiatric disabilities a plus. Preference will be given to a family member of a person with a psychiatric disability.

Compensation

Full-time, 30 hours per week, benefit eligible. $12.13 to $16.63 per hour, depending on experience.
