Position Closed-Residential Youth Counselor, San Luis Obispo

Job Summary
Transitions – Mental Health Association has an opening for a Residential Youth Counselor. Under the general direction of the Program Manager, the Residential Youth Counselor supervises residents at all times, ensures a safe and healthy living environment, provides guidance and crisis intervention, performs moderate household maintenance, and assists residents in developing socially appropriate behaviors and utilizing community resources in order to return to stable living within the community.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree; in a related Behavioral Science field is preferred (or in the last quarter/semester towards completion of Bachelor’s degree) or two years verifiable, paid, awake, full-time experience supervising at-risk youth. Must be at least 18 years of age; Must hold (or obtain within 45 days of employment) a valid California Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance, and a DMV driving report satisfactory to TMHA’s insurance carrier, as a condition of employment. At the time of hire, as a condition of employment, must comply with a T.B. skin test or chest x-ray indicating a negative tuberculosis result. Candidates must receive a criminal record clearance as a condition of employment. Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of ethnic, racial, religious background or socio-economic level.

Compensation
Part-time, 26 hours per week.Mondays 12:00pm-8:00pm, Tuesdays through Fridays 2:30pm-7;00pm.   Entry level $11.27 per hour, wage negotiable based on education and/or experience.
